Ysgol Gymuned y Fali School Street

School Streets is a new approach to improve road safety, active travel, and air quality outside schools, whereby they are closed to traffic at the start and end of the school day. This helps to reduce congestion and improve air quality at the school gates, making it easier and safer to walk or cycle to school whilst creating a more pleasant environment for everyone.
More information on School Streets can be found here.
There will be marshals managing the road closures using appropriate barriers and signage. Residents of these streets will be able to apply for a permit to give them access during the closure times.
An assessment has been undertaken across all 44 schools on the Isle of Anglesey to understand the suitability of School Street schemes. Following completion of this task, Ysgol Gymuned y Fali has been identified as a school where closing the road is likely to improve road safety. This is because of ongoing problems with drivers parking dangerously, illegally, and inconsiderately. This puts all pupils’ safety at risk.
The purpose of this consultation is to understand stakeholder views on introducing a School Street scheme at both school locations. Following completion of the consultation, one site will be chosen for a School Street trial that is likely to commence in March 2025. Therefore, your feedback is crucial in supporting us decide the most appropriate location to carry out the School Street trial in Anglesey.
The Proposal
To deliver a School Street scheme for Ysgol Gymuned y Fali, it is proposed to close Lon Spencer to the south of the school, to a point just south of the Tan Y Bryn junction to the north of the school. The road closure will be in place Monday to Friday between 8am and 9am in the morning, and between 2:30pm and 4pm in the afternoon. The scheme is only in operation during the school term.
